Revealing the full agenda for the 2024 APAC Conference

Next month NEC will host the annual Asia Pacific Conference at the Cordis Hotel in Hong Kong bringing together high-profile speakers from across the world. The topic for this year is “Collaboration, Innovation, Transformation” and will celebrate 15 years for the use of NEC contracts in Hong Kong. Ricky Lau, Permanent Secretary for Development (Works) at Development Bureau will open the conference with remarks celebrating the 15th year anniversary of NEC’s use in Hong Kong. This will be followed by the keynote presentation on Transforming Procurement, delivered by Peter Winnicott, commercial and procurement director, SMP Alliance. This keynote presentation will share a case study in the use of the NEC4 Alliance Contract (ALC) and consider how the use of NEC can support a simple and flexible approach to procurement.

This will be followed by a presentation looking at the promotion of sustainable development in Hong Kong delivered by Ringo MOK Wing-cheong from the Drainage Services Department and will also look at the benefits of the NEC4 X29 Optional Clause in promoting sustainability strategies. This will be followed by a pre-recorded presentation on the implementation of NEC contracts in Peru delivered by Sofia Garcia, deputy director of business and trade & head of infrastructure at the British Embassy Lima. 

Following a refreshment break, a panel session with Daniel Cheung, Turner & Townsend; Wong Fai, China Geo-Engineering Corporation; Mark Simister, Metaphic; Zhang Yi, China State Construction International Medical Industry Development; and Andy Kwok, Binnies Hong Kong will look at unlocking opportunities in Asia-Pacific for NEC Contracts. 

Following a networking lunch, two further panel sessions will look at the important topic of fostering and implementing collaboration best practices will take place. The panel will comprise of Cheuk-lun Leung, Civil Engineering & Development Department (CEDD); Vincent Chan, Build King Construction Limited; Francis Leung, AECOM Hong Kong; and Ellen Nga-see Cheng, CEDD. The final panel session will be delivered by Dev Amratia, Nplan; Bien Lam, Robert Bird Group; and Steven Yule, Jacobs who will discuss strategies to promote the adoption of advancing technologies. 

Finally, the conference will close with three optional workshops to select from with topics including the NEC4 Term Service Contract briefing session and NEC4 ECC in Building and Construction projects.
