NEC launches first official translation of NEC4 contracts and training

NEC is thrilled to announce the launch of its first international language translation of NEC4 contracts, guides and training into Spanish, in partnership with The Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) for Peru.

The new translation of the NEC4 Engineering and Construction Contract (ECC) and associated user guides, as well as the Introduction to the NEC4 ECC online training course, will all be available from April. They have been created as part of the successful partnership between NEC and the MEF, announced in 2024 when the NEC suite of contracts was formally adopted as the country’s preferred contract framework for infrastructure projects.

The formal agreement last year followed the initial use of NEC Contracts in Peru through the Government-to-Government (G2G) initiative for the construction of the Lima Pan American Games facilities which opened in 2019. Due to the success of this project, reforms to procurement law have continued to be implemented with NEC, granting wider market access outside of the G2G framework and broadening the opportunity for UK companies to participate in Peruvian tender processes. NEC Contracts have already been used to deliver other major works including the Bicentennial Schools and ‘Reconstruction with Changes’ programmes.

Publishing a Spanish version of the NEC4 contracts will ease implementation across Latin America, driving the benefits of national procurement including collaborative and transparent risk management, improved productivity and significant reduction in procurement times. In addition, a new Spanish language web portal has been created to help inform potential new users about the benefits of NEC contracts.

Speaking on the partnership, Global Head of NEC Contracts, Rekha Thawrani OBE said: “It has been a great pleasure to officially launch the new Spanish translation of NEC4 with the Government of Peru.

The NEC Contract suite was designed to empower collaboration and foster long lasting relationships, so seeing Peru continue to establish itself as centre of excellence in NEC expertise is a great achievement. This is our first international language translation of the contracts and along with representing our commitment to the wider adoption across Latin America, it is a resounding confirmation of our already strong partnership with the MEF.”

With UK best practices being embedded into Peru legislation, NEC will continue to work closely with Peruvian public and private sectors to foster shared knowledge, increase capabilities and raise standards across the infrastructure sector.
